The Moss Biochar Concrete Filter Platform is an advanced eco-friendly filtration system that combines physical filtration with biological purification. By integrating porous biochar concrete with a living moss layer, the system effectively removes airborne pollutants and continuously absorbs and stores carbon.
What is Biochar?
Biochar is a carbon-rich, porous material made from biomass (wood, crop residues, organic waste) via pyrolysis in low-oxygen conditions. It offers:
- Massive surface area (up to 2,000 m²/g)
- Tunable properties (porosity, pH, nutrient content) depending on feedstock and temperature
- Long-term carbon sequestration

Top Layer: Integrated Moss Surface
- Grown directly during the curing stage of the concrete, mimicking moss on rocks in nature
- Requires only minimal moisture to survive
- Performs photosynthesis, removing residual carbon compounds and pollutants
- Utilizes carbon and nutrients released from the lower layer for sustained growth
Bottom Layer: Biochar Concrete Filter
- A hybrid structure of biochar and concrete that maintains porosity and structural integrity
- Filters fine dust, particulate matter, and harmful gases
- Reusable after simple rinsing, similar to ceramic filters
- Enhanced carbon sequestration per unit volume due to high biochar content
