Understanding the Power of a Moss Air Filter
What exactly is a moss air filter, and how does it contribute to better air quality? A moss air filter, like the one developed by Mosslab, utilizes living moss as its primary filtration medium. Unlike synthetic filters, moss is a complex biological organism that interacts with its surrounding air in multiple beneficial ways. This natural air filter doesn't just trap particles; it actively processes them. The unique properties of moss make it an exceptional candidate for air purification, offering a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing alternative to conventional methods. Many are discovering the benefits of using moss to enhance their indoor environment and improve the quality of the air they breathe. This moss filter system is designed to be an efficient air purifier.
The Science of Moss: Nature's Tiny Purifier
Moss, often overlooked in the plant kingdom, is a powerhouse when it comes to cleaning the air. These hardy plants have a remarkable ability to absorb pollutants, carbon dioxide, and even some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) directly from the air through their extensive surface area. Living moss doesn't have traditional roots; instead, it draws nutrients and moisture from the atmosphere, making it incredibly efficient at interacting with airborne particles and toxins. The moss in your Moss Filter acts like a miniature forest, constantly working to improve your indoor air quality. This natural process helps in creating a healthier atmosphere in your room. The moss itself is a resilient group of plants, well-suited for this type of air filter application. We've harnessed this capability to bring you a truly effective moss air filter. The moss thrives by taking what it needs from the air, including some common indoor pollutants.
Key Benefits of Choosing a Living Moss Air Filter
Opting for a moss air filter from Mosslab offers a multitude of advantages for your health, well-being, and the environment. This innovative air filter leverages the power of living moss to deliver cleaner air and a more pleasant indoor atmosphere. The benefits extend beyond simple air purification, creating a truly unique experience. Using moss as a filter is a testament to the power of nature.
Moss for Earth
The great powers of moss help us as humans and mother nature co-exist, and not only provides these great benefits for us humans but for our natural environment also.
The Mosslab Moss Filter is designed for natural air purification capabilities of living moss.
How Does the Mosslab Moss Filter Enhance Air Quality?
Particle Trapping
The intricate structure of the moss provides a vast surface area that physically traps airborne particles like dust, pollen, and pet dander. This helps reduce common allergens in your environment.
Pollutant Absorption
Living moss can absorb various gaseous pollutants and toxins from the air. It metabolizes some of these compounds, effectively removing them from your breathing space. This includes certain volatile organic compounds.
Carbon Dioxide Reduction
Like other plants, moss takes in carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, which can contribute to fresher indoor air, especially in enclosed spaces. While a small moss air filter won't replace ventilation, it contributes positively.
Humidity Regulation
Moss can absorb excess moisture from the air when it's humid and release it when the air is dry, contributing to a more comfortable indoor humidity level. This can help prevent issues like mold growth in some instances.

I feel like this brings a little calm in my life, we end up buying 3 of them. one of each of our offices we can look at it when we work and one in the bedroom, to calm down before sleep.

This is the coolest thing I own. It has two modes so you can either use it as a humidifier or as a terrarium. The moss grows as you spray it with water and gives off such a fresh scent.

Before Moss' installation my indoor PM2.5 measurement was around 40 in average. Since Moss the average drop down to 8. I am using a Temtop S1 Air meter.
FAQ
What kind of moss is this?
The type of moss is frost moss. The scientific name is Racomitrium canescens (Hedw.) Brid. It is also called sun moss or sand moss.
What should I do if it's too damp?
Frost moss does not thrive in overly moist conditions. Unlike plants with roots, moss absorbs water/CO2 through the entire surface of its leaves, and excessive moisture can negatively affect its metabolism and growth. If the moss becomes too moist from misting, it is recommended to detach the moss panel, dry it separately, and then reinstall it.
Will bugs not occur?
The moss filter undergoes quarantine after completely removing soil, which is conducive to insects breeding, so it's difficult for bugs to infest. Since the release of the moss frame product in September 2022 in Korea, we have not received any claims about bugs infesting the moss frames.
How long does moss typically live?
The typical lifespan of frost moss is about 5-10 years. However, just like any plant, its lifespan can vary depending on the surrounding environment and care.
Do I need to water the moss like normal plants?
The roots are just rhizoids that support the structure, and the vascular bundles are not well-developed, so the entire moss absorbs water and nutrients. With MossAir's mist, it can grow sufficiently. An overly moist environment can harm the moss's growth, so please avoid misting too frequently.
There is a delay when switching from terrarium mode to humidifying mode, what should I do?
When switching from terrarium to humidifying mode, a 'Moss Growth Safety Mode' is activated, which may cause a delay of about 10-20 seconds before transitioning to humidifying mode. This is a control system to prevent moss from becoming too moist, providing an optimal environment for its growth. Please wait a moment for the humidifying mode to activate and rest assured.
When charging from a discharged state, the LED turns green and stops charging, then the humidifier stops spraying. What should I do?
If the battery indicator turns green, it means that the battery is more than 80% charged. Occasionally, when current flows in a discharged state, the green light may turn on in a short time, so it is recommended to charge for about 5-6 hours when you first open the product and charge it.
The moss falls off easily. Does it normally do that?
Since the moss filter is a living plant, it's natural for some spores, leaves, etc., to fall off. It is harmless to humans.
I have charged it, but the power doesn't turn on. What might be the problem?
Using a fast charger (5V/3A or higher) may damage the product, and there is a risk of damage. If the power does not turn on after charging for about 4-5 hours in a discharged state, please call customer service.
The moss appears brown. Isn't it withered?
The moss is a living plant. Therefore, the color of the moss may change with humidity, temperature, and season, which is a natural phenomenon. However, in the case of the moss filter, the body of the moss may appear brown due to being highlighted.
The humidifier turns off a few minutes after turning it on and switching to humidifying mode.
Please soak the entire cotton filter for at least 30 seconds and fill the water tank sufficiently before operating the humidifier. If it still doesn't work, please call customer service.
